Chronic Pericarditis with Effusion

چکیده
ERICARDITIS is commonly classified as acute or chronic. Pericarditis with effusion is regarded as a form of acute pericarditis and not as a form of chronic pericarditis." 2 This is undoubtedly correct in nearly all instances. There are, however, occasional exceptions in which pericarditis with effusion follows a chronic course of many months, notable for the complete absence of the features of acute disease. The purpose of this report is to call attention to this less common type of chronic pericarditis with effusion, to describe three illustrative cases and to comment on several features of special interest.

متن کاملPurulent Pericarditis: Report of a Case with Postoperative Chronic Pericardial Effusion
Nowadays, purulent pericarditis (PP) has become a rare disease with the increased use of antibiotics in clinical practices. The outcome of PP is poor due to severe infection and haemodynamic failure by the inhibition of the ventricle repletion, and no consensus exists on the treatment. We describe a case of PP with postoperative chronic pericardial effusion changing to the abscess. Following li...
متن کاملDiagnostic Value of Interferon-γ Release Assays on Pericardial Effusion for Diagnosis of Tuberculous Pericarditis
Diagnosis of tuberculous pericarditis remains a challenge. We aimed in this study to evaluate the diagnostic value of T-SPOT.TB on pericardial effusion for diagnosis of tuberculous pericarditis. Patients with suspected tuberculous pericarditis were enrolled consecutively between August 2011 and December 2015. T-SPOT.TB was performed on both pericardial effusion mononuclear cells (PEMCs)and peri...
متن کاملChronic Idiopathic Pericardial Effusion
Persistent pericardial effusion in the absence of obvious preceding or concurrent disease presents a baffling problem. In such cases chylopericardium, cholesterol pericarditis, lupus erythematosus, malignant disease, myxedema, severe anemia, and scleroderma, must be considered. Six cases are reported with large effusions present for from 1 to 11 years. The diagnostic measures to be used, the re...
متن کاملCLINICOPATHOLOGIC CORRELATIONS Uremic Pericarditis as a Cause of Cardiac Tamponade
Uremic pericarditis may complicate either acute or, more commonly, chronic renal failure. When dialysis is not employed, uremic pericarditis is usually a preterminal event and is characterized by a serofibrinous exudation of an amount inadequate to cause cardiac tamponade. Nevertheless, cardiac tamponade may uncommonly be observed in nondialyzed patients. Cardiac tamponade, which may be life-th...
